Sophie Lavaux

Governor of the Brussels Conurbation, and director general of safe.brussels

Sophie Lavaux, born on May 27, 1975, has been General Director of safe.brussels since July 15, 2021, and Governor of the Brussels Conurbation in Belgium since July 26, 2021. In this capacity, Sophie Lavaux exercises the crisis management and emergency planning powers devolved to the Governors of the Belgian provinces.

Sophie Lavaux holds a Bachelor's degree in criminology from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, a Master's degree in public administration management from the Solvay Business School, a Master's degree in European Politics from the Université de Louvain-la-Neuve, a certificate in radicalism and terrorism from the Université de Liège and a Master's degree in crisis management from the Université d'Anvers.

She began her career as a political analyst with State Security. She then spent most of her career at the Belgian National Crisis Centre. In recent years, she has held the position of Operational Director.
