Professor and co-coordinator of the GATHERINGS project, Vrije Universiteit Brussel - VUB (Belgium)

Mattias De Backer is Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Editor-in-Chief of the free journal Criminological Encounters. A transdisciplinary researcher, he is active in criminology, sociology, philosophy and geography. Mattias holds an MA in philosophy and urban studies and a PhD in criminology. He works on subjects relating to youth, the city and migration, and is interested in creative/participatory methods and post-structuralist philosophy.
