Enrique Betancourt

Director, Citizen Security Initiative, Chemonics International

Enrique Betancourt is the Director for the Citizen Security Project financed by USAID in El Salvador. This project works with Salvadoran government institutions, municipalities, civil society, local organisations, and the private sector to sustain low levels of crime and violence in underserved neighbourhoods in the country’s major urban areas. Previously, Betancourt acted as Director of the Citizen Security Initiative at Chemonics International where he oversaw a portfolio of security and justice projects implemented in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Central America. Prior to joining Chemonics,Betancourt was the Executive Director of the National Centre for Crime Prevention of the Government of Mexico.Betancourt holds an urban design degree from Harvard University and is a Yale University World Fellow.
